FAQ

Q) What is dry rub?
A) Dry rub is a mixture of spices and seasonings that you can rub into meats and other foods. Using your hands to rub the spices will help to release and intensify the flavors. Placing the meat and the rub into a plastic bag is also effective and less messy.

Q) Does dry rub need time to soak into meat?
A) Not necessarily. You can grill immediately after applying the rub. However, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to allow the rubbed meat to sit in the refrigerator for a while either. If you have a high quality rub like Dixie Meat Rub, your meat will be amazing no matter what!

Q) What type of container is recommended to store marinated or rubbed meat?
A) If you don’t like the taste of metal, you should never use a metal container. Other than that, you can use other options. We prefer air tight, plastic containers to hold in flavor and to prevent other foods from absorbing the intense spices that are reserved for your meat!

Q) Do you need to remove the skins from chicken before rubbing or marinating?
A) It is not a rule but definitely a suggestion. It really helps to get the flavor deep into your chicken. Also, for the same reason, it helps to remove excess fat from chicken or other meats before rubbing or marinating.

Q) How do you prevent meat from curling when grilling?
A) If there is fat on the outer edge of your steak, slash diagonally at one inch intervals. Do not cut into lean meat.

Q) Is salt necessary in dry rub?
A) No, although besides being a flavor enhancer, salt aids in retaining moisture in meat. There is a scientific explanation about how salt binds with natural proteins but that is a discussion for another day. Our dry rubs use gourmet sea salts to enhance flavor but we do not use salt as a filler or the base for our rubs.
